He said he believes that Indonesia and Russia are on the same page on the matter, as reflected by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statements during their bilateral meeting at the Constantine Palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on Thursday.
“I am convinced that Russia has greater influence in the region due to its ties with the Iranian government. In other words, I believe the Russian government can play a pivotal role, and yes, all parties will strive for de-escalation,” Prabowo added.
In response to a question from ANTARA at his transit hotel in Saint Petersburg on Friday night, he emphasized that Indonesia is among many nations advocating for a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Iran and Israel.
“We all want de-escalation. We want to find a peaceful way for both parties to resolve the conflict,” he stressed.
The Indonesian President made an official visit to Saint Petersburg from June 18 to 20, 2025, during which he met with President Putin at the Constantine Palace and delivered a speech at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025.
During their two-hour one-on-one meeting, Prabowo and Putin discussed bilateral, regional, and global issues. At a joint press conference afterward, both leaders emphasized that they shared the same views on several matters.
“We respect the sovereignty of all countries. We favor peaceful means of resolving problems and are committed to prioritizing collaboration over conflict,” Prabowo affirmed.
On Friday, the two leaders shared the stage with three other speakers at SPIEF, where they addressed current geopolitical issues, including the Iran-Israel conflict, and their impacts on global and domestic economies.
In his speech, Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to non-alignment and highlighted investment opportunities, national food security, economic growth, and Indonesia-Russia ties, among other things.
