Bandung (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government officially launched the second round of the Regional Leaders’ Retreat in Sumedang, West Java, on Monday.

Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian said the retreat — held at the National Institute of Public Administration (IPDN) campus in Jatinangor — is aimed at reinforcing national unity.

“The main goal of this retreat is to consolidate and strengthen our values of unity as a nation and a state,” he stated in his opening remarks.

He noted that IPDN was selected as the venue due to its accessibility for regional officials, compared to the previous location — the Indonesian Military Academy (Akmil) in Magelang, Central Java.

“We chose IPDN so officials who often travel to Jakarta will find it more convenient to attend, as it is closer to Bandung than Magelang,” Karnavian explained.

He added that the outcomes of the second retreat will be reported to President Prabowo Subianto.

It is expected that regional leaders will engage meaningfully with national policy updates while still performing their duties remotely.

“I will report back to the President. Regional leaders can refresh themselves while continuing their work via Zoom and listen to national policy directions from key speakers,” he said.

The retreat is scheduled to run from June 23 to 26, with 86 regional leaders participating, including two governors and three deputy governors.

Over four days, participants will discuss six major topics: national resilience and insight, Asta Cita (President Prabowo’s eight priority missions), programs from ministries and agencies, the roles and responsibilities of regional leaders, political leadership and communication, and team building.

Heads of 31 ministries and agencies are scheduled to speak during the event.
