Jakarta (ANTARA) - Investment and Downstream Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani on Tuesday announced the establishment of a government desk tasked with attracting more investment into Batam City, Riau Islands Province.

The formation of the special desk, designated as a service hub, was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

The MoU was signed by representatives from the Investment and Downstream Ministry, the Batam municipal government, and the organizing body of Batam’s free trade and free port zone (KPBPB) in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Roeslani informed that through the newly formed desk, he will station officials from his ministry in Batam to ensure investment-related processes run smoothly.

“We now have a desk that is responsible for increasing investment realization in Batam’s KPBPB. Hopefully, this initiative will accelerate all processes and facilitate the inflow of capital into Batam,” he said.

The minister added that the desk’s establishment is a testament to the government’s commitment to achieving the target of pulling in Rp13 thousand trillion (around US$800 billion) in investment by the end of President Prabowo Subianto’s term in 2029.

Meanwhile, Batam Mayor Amsakar Achmad highlighted that in 2024, the city’s economic growth stood at 6.69 percent, surpassing the national figure of 5.03 percent.

He attributed this favorable growth to intensive and ongoing efforts to improve regional governance in the city.

In addition, the total investment realization in Batam last year reached Rp42.26 trillion (US$2.5 billion), up 31.17 percent from the previous year.

Achmad underlined that the increase, which resulted in the creation of thousands of employment opportunities across different sectors, reflects the high level of trust and confidence of business actors in Batam’s investment climate.

“The MoU we signed is expected to create avenues for more investments to flow into Batam City,” he said.
