In a statement on Tuesday, the Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections said Indonesia remains open to expanding the BVK list, provided the decision aligns with national interests.
“The granting of the BVK facility should be based on mutual benefits,” said Agato Simamora, Assistant Deputy for Immigration Service Strategies at the ministry, during a meeting with other officials on Monday.
Meanwhile, Assistant Deputy for Immigration and Correctional Cooperation Herdaus stressed the importance of gathering input from relevant ministries and agencies before moving forward with the proposal.
“Our role is to ensure that policy decisions are formulated in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” he said.
Galih Priya Kartika Perdhana, Head of the Planning Division at the Directorate General of Immigration, noted that ongoing discussions around the BVK proposal reflect the Indonesian government’s responsiveness to global dynamics.
“Adding Brazil to the BVK list would be a strategic move to strengthen Indonesia’s global standing,” he said.
Director of Diplomatic Facilities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sayu Oka Widani echoed that view, saying the move could enhance Indonesia–Brazil relations.
“We welcome the proposal and will send an official letter to the Immigration Directorate General to show our support,” she said.
Bambang Poewono, Assistant Deputy for Law, Human Rights, and State Apparatus at the Cabinet Secretariat, also expressed support, adding that the proposal aligns with current policies on tourism and international relations.
“We fully support the inclusion of Brazil as a BVK recipient,” he affirmed.
