Andy Rachmianto, Director General for Protocol and Consular Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Tuesday that the government is collecting data for the second phase of evacuations, following the successful repatriation of 97 Indonesians in the first round.
"There are still 380 Indonesian citizens in Iran, so the government has decided to proceed with a second evacuation. We are currently monitoring the numbers," Rachmianto said.
He noted that the figure continues to grow as more Indonesians submit evacuation requests to the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran.
Rachmianto explained that a cross-ministerial task force has been deployed to monitor the security situation in the Middle East around the clock, following Israeli and U.S. military strikes on Iran.
"We want to ensure that the government is fully present to assist our citizens currently facing difficulties in several Middle Eastern countries. The situation remains fluid and highly dynamic," he said.
According to the ministry, 97 Indonesians—including three embassy staff and one Iranian national married to an Indonesian—have been evacuated to Baku, Azerbaijan.
The evacuees were repatriated in stages. The first group of 29 people was flown to Indonesia on different commercial flights. However, only 11 had safely arrived by Tuesday evening due to disruptions in regional air travel.
The remaining 18 evacuees are currently in Doha, awaiting flights after Qatar temporarily closed its airspace, affecting international flight schedules.
