Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia shared its experience with the Artificial Intelligence Readiness Assessment Methodology (AI-RAM) at the 3rd UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, held in Bangkok on Wednesday.

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria took part in a high-level session titled “From Readiness Assessment to Enhanced Institutional, Technical, and Human Capacities on AI.” He presented key findings from Indonesia’s national AI-RAM assessment.

"AI-RAM has helped us comprehensively assess the status of our AI development across multiple dimensions — legal, social, scientific, economic, and technological," Patria said in a statement.

He explained that the process fostered a shared understanding of diverse needs and expectations, developed through multi-stakeholder workshops held in Jakarta, Aceh, Balikpapan, and Makassar.

Patria stressed that while AI-RAM focuses heavily on technology adoption, Indonesia also sees the need to align this with strategic goals for digital sovereignty.

"The most significant step forward is to complement this by evaluating our readiness for digital technology sovereignty — a deeper and more critical strategic assessment for our future in the global digital landscape," he added.

During the session, Indonesia also underscored the importance of AI ethics education, public engagement, and sector-specific policies for areas such as healthcare, education, and bureaucratic reform.

The country also advocated for regional cooperation among Global South countries, emphasizing shared values, ethical standards, and knowledge exchange. It called for ethical impact assessments to be integrated into all multilateral AI initiatives.

This year’s UNESCO AI Ethics Forum focused on strengthening global collaboration to ensure that technological development supports human rights, social justice, and sustainability.

"Indonesia remains committed to playing a strategic role in the global AI ecosystem, particularly for Global South countries," Patria said.
