Bondowoso, East Java (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday inaugurated the operation and construction of several geothermal power plants (PLTP) and solar power plants (PLTS) spread across 15 provinces.

“This afternoon, I inaugurate the operation and construction of renewable energy (projects) in 15 provinces,” he informed via video conference from Bali.

According to Subianto, the power plant projects are a part of the government’s efforts to build energy self-sufficiency.

He said that the independence of a nation is determined by its ability to feed its people and ensure a decent life and livelihood for them.

He emphasized that energy has an important role in the life of the nation in the 21st century.

“We will stand on our own two feet and we will be able to provide energy to the entire nation efficiently,” the President affirmed.

The projects inaugurated on Thursday include the Blawan Ijen Unit 1 PLTP and other renewable energy projects that have entered the commercial operation and initial development stages.

The Blawan Ijen Unit 1 Geothermal Power Plant entered the commercial operation date (COD) stage on February 9, 2025.

The plant has a power generation capacity of 34 megawatts (MW), with a potential for pulling in non-tax state revenue (PNBP) of Rp15 billion per year (US$893 thousand).

Two more PLTPs were inaugurated on Thursday: Sorik Marapi Unit 5 PLTP in Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra, and Salak Binary PLTP in Sukabumi District, West Java.

On the same occasion, the government conducted the groundbreaking of five new PLTP projects with a total capacity of 260 MW.

They include PLTP Patuha Unit 2 in Bandung, West Java; PLTP Salak Unit 7 in Sukabumi, West Java; PLTP Wayang Windu Unit 3 in Bandung, West Java; Muaralaboh PLTP Unit 2 in Solok Selatan, West Sumatra; and Ulubelu Gunung Tiga PLTP in Tanggamus, Lampung.

Meanwhile, 47 solar power plants (PLTS) with a total capacity of 27.8 MW were also launched across 11 provinces. They will provide electricity access to 5,383 households.

They include 1 PLTS in Bali with a capacity of 25 MW; 7 PLTS in East Java with a total capacity of 0.52 MW; 11 PLTS in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) with a total capacity of 0.69 MW; and 2 PLTS in West Kalimantan with a total capacity of 0.14 MW.

They further comprise 5 PLTS in East Kalimantan with total capacity of 0.12 MW; 2 PLTS in North Kalimantan with a total capacity of 0.08 MW; 3 PLTS in North Sulawesi with a total capacity of 0.54 MW; and 2 PLTS in Maluku with a total capacity of 0.1 MW.

In addition, they include 21 PLTS in North Maluku with a total capacity of 0.005 MW; 5 PLTS in Papua with a total capacity of 0.26 MW; and 8 PLTS in West Papua with a total capacity of 0.29 MW.
