“We hope to deepen this collaboration so that we can provide more sustainable public transport and smarter logistics for the people,” the minister said during a reception held to celebrate the 77th birthday of King Charles III here on Wednesday.
Indonesia and the United Kingdom share a commitment to building cleaner and greener mobility, he said, adding that Jakarta has played its part by launching TransJakarta electric buses and the Jakarta LRT (Light Rapid Transit) system.
According to Purwagandhi, Indonesia is eager to strengthen collaboration with all parties, including the UK government, to develop an environment where people can move efficiently, safely, and sustainably, “not only between cities but also between islands.”

“Facilitating mobility means acknowledging the need to pursue dreams and aspirations,” he added.
The minister said that the Indonesia-UK cooperation has yielded positive results. Moreover, the Indonesia-UK New Strategic Partnership framework is currently being formulated and is expected to be completed this year.
He added that the “Global Future Cities Programme” promoted by the UK government is a fine example of the cooperation between the two nations. The program’s first phase was launched in 2022 and included Indonesian cities.
“Meanwhile, phase II will accelerate this progress through community-based approaches and inclusive infrastructure design,” he said, referring to the development of Bandung and Surabaya cities under the program.
The minister also expressed confidence that Indonesia-UK relations will remain strong at a time when global challenges are testing the strength of multilateralism.
“Trust that we have each other, even in uncertain times, and that a peaceful and inclusive partnership is always the chosen path,” he said.
