We will strengthen our strategic partnership and finalize a strategic partnership agreement in September this year.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A new strategic partnership agreement between Indonesia and the United Kingdom will be finalized in September 2025, British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey stated on Wednesday evening.

"In our next bilateral agenda, we will strengthen our strategic partnership and finalize a strategic partnership agreement in September this year," Ambassador Jermey stated during the King Charles III Birthday celebration by the British Embassy in Jakarta.

The strategic partnership will focus on four main areas: human resource development, especially in the fields of education and health, economy, sustainable development encompassing aspects of environmentally friendly energy and forest conservation, as well as defense and security.

"We will also work together to realize peace through collaboration in the fields of defense and security to defend the basic values that both countries continue to maintain," Jermey affirmed.

The ambassador emphasized that collaboration between Indonesia and the United Kingdom is increasingly important, given the evolving global geopolitical landscape, particularly as both countries have the same commitment to democracy and human rights.

He noted that productive cooperation to advance the economy and human development in both countries will help Indonesia and the United Kingdom navigate global dynamics.

According to the ambassador, the strategic partnership will be launched at an upcoming meeting between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

"The strategic partnership between Indonesia and the United Kingdom (UK) will create closer ties in the areas of political cooperation, business, defense and security, as well as other areas," the ambassador stated.

According to a joint statement of the Indonesian-UK Governments in November 2024, a new strategic partnership agreement between Indonesia and the UK is expected to optimize all opportunities for bilateral cooperation in various fields in the future.

The agreement will also provide a framework for cooperation among businesses, academic and research institutions, cultural organizations, and the wider community.
