Bondowoso, East Java (ANTARA) - The use of renewable energy, especially solar power, can help Indonesia achieve energy self-sufficiency down to the village level, according to President Prabowo Subianto.

“Renewable energy, especially solar energy, is very strategic to support villages, districts, and remote islands to be self-sufficient in energy,” he said at the inauguration of the operation and construction of geothermal power plants (PLTP) and solar power plants (PLTS) in 15 provinces on Thursday.

He joined the inauguration via video conference.

According to the President, the use of solar energy can help ensure equal access to electricity, including on remote islands and mountainous areas.

Earlier, he received a report on the large national oil and gas reserves and the availability of technology that could allow for the acceleration of energy projects.

“This makes us very optimistic; we are looking at a bright future,” he said.

The head of state informed that the government will conduct calculations with the private sector and foreign partners to continue the program for national energy self-sufficiency.

The effort is also aimed at supporting the target of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2060, he added.
