"We, at the Home Affairs Ministry, will first thoroughly study the substance of the MK's verdict," the ministry's Director General of Politics and Governmental Affairs, Bahtiar, noted in a statement received here on Saturday.
He stated that the ministry will consult with experts and relevant government institutions to assess the verdict's potential impact, including its effects on budgeting.
Furthermore, Bahtiar noted that the ministry intends to evaluate how the ruling will affect existing regulations, particularly the General Elections Law, Regional Elections Law, and Regional Government Law.
The Home Affairs Ministry will also coordinate with the House of Representatives (DPR) and election organizers to follow up on the court's decision, he added.
The official explained that this approach is essential, as such a fundamental change to the election schedule would inevitably have wide-ranging effects, especially regulatory implications.
"For this reason, we will foster intensive communication with both government institutions and the parliament, as the legislative body," he emphasized.
He further stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs would collaborate with relevant ministries and agencies to devise schemes that ensure the effective conduct of national and regional elections in accordance with the mandated gap while also supporting nationwide efforts for budget efficiency.
Earlier, in Jakarta on Thursday (June 26), the MK ruled that executive and legislative elections at the regional level must be held between two and two-and-a-half years after the conclusion of national-level elections, which is marked by the inauguration of elected candidates.
In this context, national elections refer to polling for the president and vice president, DPR legislators, and senators at the Regional Representative Council (DPD), while regional elections cover governors, mayors, district heads, and lawmakers at the provincial and municipal/district levels.
