Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, disbursed assistance for the provision of high-speed Internet services to two Sekolah Rakyat in Yogyakarta as part of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority program.

“This school will be designed according to the direction of the President, namely a smart school with Internet connection provided by the Communication and Digital Ministry,” she informed in a statement on Saturday.

Sekolah Rakyat is a free education initiative launched by the government to improve access to education and reduce poverty.

Hafid informed that the two schools that received the assistance are Bantul District Sekolah Rakyat 19 and Sleman District Sekolah Rakyat 20.

According to the minister, the two schools are now connected to high-speed Internet and will soon start teaching and learning activities.

The Bantul Sekolah Rakyat has a 100 Mbps Internet connection to support 75 students from three study groups.

Meanwhile, the Sleman Sekolah Rakyat facility is equipped with a 200 Mbps Internet connection for 200 students from five districts/city in Yogyakarta.

The assistance for the Internet services was received by secretary general of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Robben Rico, in Sleman on Saturday, as a form of synergy between the ministries to support the development of a digital-based and inclusive education system.

“This Sekolah Rakyat is the President’s initiative entrusted to ministries/institutions, provincial governments, and district/city governments,” Hafid said.

She added that by providing such assistance, the ministry hopes to ensure all children, especially those from vulnerable groups, have access to technology-based education, in line with the grand design of the national digital transformation.

President Prabowo is scheduled to officially launch the Sekolah Rakyat Program on July 14, 2025, to ensure sustainable and equitable human development.

During the activity, Minister Hafid was accompanied by director general of digital infrastructure at the ministry, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, who assured that technical support for digital infrastructure in the schools would be monitored and improved.

Head of the ministry’s BPSDM, Bonifasius Wahyu Pudjianto, also joined the activity.
