Commission I Deputy Chair Budisatrio Djiwandono emphasized the urgency of the meeting, noting that its results could directly affect national interests and the safety of Indonesian nationals abroad.
"The highly dynamic nature of the current geopolitical climate has prompted Indonesian diplomats to quickly adopt adaptive strategies," the lawmaker stated at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Monday.
He explained that the hearing aims to provide a platform for the DPR and the government to align perspectives, enhance synergy, and formulate concrete plans to respond to arising challenges, especially following the recent Iran-Israel conflict.
He affirmed that Commission I is seeking an official briefing from the government on the global geopolitical situation and its implications on the well-being of Indonesian citizens overseas.
He also underlined the importance of the Foreign Affairs Ministry clearly articulating the government's stance and plans on Middle East conflicts and ongoing border issues.
Djiwandono then praised the ministry for its swift response to increasing geopolitical challenges, particularly its success in ensuring the safe return of Indonesians from crisis zones.
“We are grateful for the safe return of many of our citizens,” he stated.
In that context, he reiterated the DPR's support for the ministry’s continued efforts to repatriate Indonesians from high-risk regions.
The parliament has also announced plans to hold a similar session with President Prabowo Subianto.
As of Saturday (June 28), the Foreign Affairs Ministry reported that 79 evacuees from Iran had safely returned to Indonesia.
“The government has evacuated 73 individuals—72 Indonesian nationals and one Iranian national,” Judha Nugraha, Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the ministry, noted in a written statement on Friday (June 27).
The next day, he announced the arrival of six more evacuees who had been sheltering in Baku, Azerbaijan. He affirmed that the final group of 13 evacuees was expected to arrive in Indonesia on Monday
