The two leaders also expressed hope that the ceasefire would lead to lasting peace.
"We continue to encourage a peaceful resolution from all parties and welcome the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. We hope this process will continue toward peace," Prabowo said during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Anwar at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday.
He also emphasized that Indonesia and Malaysia recognize the urgent need for global collective efforts to promote peaceful solutions to various international conflicts.
Regarding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Prabowo stressed that Indonesia and Malaysia consistently support Palestinian independence and believe that the two-state solution is the only way to end the humanitarian crisis and genocide in Gaza.
At the joint press conference, Prime Minister Anwar condemned Israel’s attack on Iran. He also underscored Malaysia’s support for Iran’s right to defend its dignity, integrity, and sovereignty.
Nevertheless, the Prime Minister emphasized that the most important goal is joint efforts to achieve peace—not only between Iran and Israel but throughout the Middle East—while ensuring the rights of Palestine as an independent and sovereign state.
Earlier in the day, President Prabowo welcomed Prime Minister Anwar at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta around 1 p.m. local time. The two then traveled together to Merdeka Palace in the same vehicle.
At the palace, the two leaders held a bilateral meeting to discuss several key issues, including bilateral relations, Southeast Asian dynamics, and global matters such as the Israel-Iran conflict and genocide in Gaza.
