"We continue to ensure the renovation runs in accordance with the schedule. Nationally, the first phase of Sekolah Rakyat renovation has reached 83 percent," he noted in a statement here on Monday.
This strategic project is implemented in accordance with Presidential Instruction Number 8 of 2025, which aims to provide quality education for Indonesian children, particularly those from poor and extremely poor families.
The Ministry of Public Works is also preparing for the second phase of development.
"For the second phase of Sekolah Rakyat, we are verifying the feasibility of the locations one by one, which will later create jobs for thousands of workers," he remarked.
According to the minister, the biggest challenge in this project is procuring custom-made furniture, which takes longer than the physical building development process.
"To accelerate the second phase, we have even started the furniture procurement earlier before the physical construction starts," Hanggodo remarked.
The Indonesian government is currently preparing to launch the Sekolah Rakyat program, a tuition-free boarding school initiated by President Prabowo Subianto.
This program, implemented under the coordination of the Ministry of Social Affairs, aims to end the cycle of poverty and realize a brighter future for low-income groups.
The Ministry of Social Affairs is seeking to launch the program on July 14, 2025, in line with the start of the 2025–2026 academic year. For the initial phase, 100 school locations have been prepared.
President Prabowo has also instructed the expansion of Sekolah Rakyat by adding another 100 locations, bringing the total to 200 nationwide.
