The figure accounts for just 7.1 percent of the total budget of Rp71 trillion (around US$4.38 billion) allocated for the program in the 2025 State Budget.
During a meeting with the Budget Committee of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Tuesday, Indrawati said that 1,863 nutritional fulfillment service units (SPPGs) have been set up so far to prepare food for the program.
They cover 5,588,419 beneficiaries, she added.
“In the 2025 State Budget, the Rp71 trillion budget is for 15.5 million school children, 2.4 million pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers,” she informed.
The government is targeting to cover 17.9 million MBG beneficiaries in 2025, comprising 15.5 million schoolchildren and 2.4 million pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children under five.
For the long term, the government has set a bigger target of establishing 30 thousand SPPGs and reaching 82.9 million beneficiaries across Indonesia.
The minister emphasized that efforts to achieve these targets will require hard work, especially in the last six months of the 2025 budget year.
She further said that, with the progress and expansion of the program’s reach, the budget allocation could be raised to ensure that the nutritional needs of vulnerable groups and students are fulfilled uniformly.
Launched on January 6, 2025, Free Nutritious Meals is one of the main programs initiated by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka for their 2024–2029 term.
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) earlier announced that the program will continue to run during the school holiday period from late June to mid-July, with food package deliveries to schools scheduled every Monday and Thursday.
