During a working meeting with Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Wednesday, the minister highlighted the role of deindustrialization in the country as a factor in the rising unemployment rate.
“This means it is not necessarily because our graduates are unprepared for working,” he explained.
He noted that part of the problem may lie in the readiness of industries to take in new graduates. Some industries may not be prepared to absorb new graduates, he said.
To address the issue from an educational perspective, he informed that the ministry has partnered with several industries, both state-owned and private, to help boost the absorption of fresh graduates in the job market.
“We are also collaborating with different parties, ministries, and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to downstream research products. This will help build new industries and expand the economy beyond what the existing industries,” Yuliarto said.
According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the number of unemployed in Indonesia rose to 7.28 million as of February 2025.
Earlier, Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, stressed that national synergy is crucial to address the challenges in the labor sector and advance Indonesia’s development progress.
He stressed the importance of providing equal opportunities and space to everyone to contribute to nation-building.
He said that the active participation of all components of the nation can help maximize development efforts.
“This is a major challenge that cannot be resolved by the Ministry of Manpower alone. We need synergy from all government elements and stakeholders,” he added.
