Jakarta (ANTARA) - Manpower Minister Yassierli reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to addressing global and regional employment challenges through strategic and inclusive efforts in the Asia-Pacific region.

“Our solutions must be inclusive, data-driven, and focused on competency development through upskilling and reskilling, so no one is left behind in the transformation of work,” Yassierli said during the Asia-Pacific Group (ASPAG) Ministerial Meeting, held on the sidelines of the 113th International Labour Conference (ILC) at the United Nations office in Geneva, Switzerland, on Thursday.

During the forum, Yassierli also expressed Indonesia’s appreciation for the solidarity shown by ASPAG member countries towards Palestine and voiced support for the continuation of the ILO’s efforts in the region.

“Indonesia welcomes ASPAG’s joint statement in support of the ILO’s work in Palestine. It strongly reflects the values of justice and solidarity we all share,” he stated.

Yassierli further highlighted that the Asia-Pacific region faces diverse labor market issues, ranging from high youth unemployment to the growing number of elderly workers.

He stressed that future employment policies must be flexible, adaptive, and avoid a one-size-fits-all approach.

The minister noted that Indonesia is consistently advancing employment reforms rooted in social justice, equal access to job opportunities, and national productivity.

Key strategic initiatives include transforming job training centers (BLKs) to better align with future industrial needs, strengthening transformative industrial relations to foster a harmonious, dynamic, and equitable labor climate, and implementing a national apprenticeship program to bridge the gap between education and the labor market.

“In addition, Indonesia is expanding the reach of social security programs for workers, particularly to protect vulnerable groups and enhance workers’ socio-economic resilience amid global uncertainties,” Yassierli added.

He concluded by underscoring the importance of fair representation for Asia-Pacific nations in international decision-making processes, including within the ILO.

“We fully support the ILO’s mission in this region and are ready to collaborate with all ASPAG members to shape a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future of work,” he said.
