Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has said that Indonesia is planning to purchase energy products worth US$15.5 billion from the United States (US).

“We have just discussed what Indonesia will offer to the US related to the tariff. We discussed the plan of Indonesia purchasing energy worth up to US$15.5 billion in total,” he said at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday.

He added that the discussions also covered the procurement of agricultural goods and plans for investment, including by state-owned enterprises and the Danantara Indonesia Investment Management Agency.

“The plan is that an agreement or memorandum of understanding will be signed between Indonesia and its partners in the US on July 7 (2025),” he informed.

According to Hartarto, under the instruction of President Prabowo Subianto, the commitment to the purchase of US products could be long-term in nature.

“The US’ trade deficit with Indonesia is US$19 billion, but the amount of purchases we offer them is more than that, namely US$34 billion,” he informed.

The Indonesian government is planning to increase energy imports from the US as part of its strategy to balance the trade between the two countries.

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has said that, as per Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data, Indonesia’s trade balance with the US has recorded a surplus of around US$14.5 billion, which is lower than the deficit recorded by the US.

Therefore, the government’s strategy is to import liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), crude oil, and fuel worth more than US$10 billion directly from the US.

The plan includes increasing the share of LPG imports from the US from 54 percent to 65–80 percent and crude oil imports from less than 4 percent to more than 40 percent.
