"This is not merely about automating for efficiency but rather about strengthening and elevating human values and capabilities," he noted in a statement here on Thursday.
Pratikno explained that Indonesia does not aim solely for efficiency but also prioritizes the strengthening of noble values and humanity, even as AI is utilized in various aspects of life.
Pratikno also assessed that AI is no longer just a concept of the future but is already present in everyday life and transforming the way humans work, think, and live.
To this end, Indonesia chooses not only to adopt AI but also to guide its development in a new direction.
He underlined that AI adoption must be based on ethical principles, as AI systems are not neutral and still learn from humans, including from their reasoning and flaws.
"Therefore, AI must be developed not only with intelligence but also integrity," he remarked.
He also stressed the importance of building a digital future guided by the values of the state ideology, Pancasila, and not just by technology alone. Thus, the government is encouraging the development of digital talent that is not only technically proficient but also strong in ethics.
The Indonesian government is currently preparing the AI Road Map, which will serve as a guideline for developing an inclusive and responsible AI ecosystem.
The government has determined five priority sectors for AI development, which are health, digital talent education, bureaucratic reform, smart city development, and food security, to ensure that digital transformation promotes fairness and people’s welfare.
