Jakarta (ANTARA) -

Indonesia’s National Police (Polri) plans to establish 200 kitchens at regional police headquarters this year to support the government’s Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.

The initiative was first announced by Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo during Polri’s 79th anniversary celebration in Jakarta on July 1. The kitchens, officially called Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs), aim to serve thousands across the country.

"We will intensify efforts to establish SPPGs at all regional police units in support of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority program," said Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, Polri’s Inspectorate General of Supervision, in a statement on Tuesday.

To meet the target, the police are using a penta-helix approach, collaborating with regional governments, nutrition experts, businesses, communities, and the media.

"Our Pusdokkes (medical and health centers) will play a central role in ensuring food security,” Prasetyo added, noting that these centers will drive innovation to ensure beneficiaries receive adequate nutrition.

On Monday, Prasetyo visited a kitchen established by the Central Kalimantan Regional Police, which is now awaiting verification by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) before it begins full operations.

He also laid the groundwork for four additional kitchens in the districts of North Barito, Kapuas, West Kotawaringin, and East Kotawaringin. Each facility is expected to serve about 3,500 beneficiaries and employ 47 staff.

General Listyo previously announced that Polri had doubled its kitchen development target for this year — from 100 to 200 — due to the program’s early success. By June, 139 SPPGs had already been established, exceeding the initial one-year goal.

"Currently, 18 kitchens are operational, 24 are being verified, and 97 are under development," he said, adding that at least 200 kitchens are expected to be active by the end of 2025. The kitchens aim to serve a combined 430,000 beneficiaries.
