“All Indonesian children are brothers and sisters; all children are equal; Indonesian children are united as one,” an official at the ministry, Devy Nia Pradhika, said here on Thursday.
She made the statement after attending a dialogue with representatives from the Children’s Forum supported by Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) in Jakarta.
She emphasized that HAN should be a source of encouragement for children to remain enthusiastic in their daily activities, including play, while engaging in positive behaviors.
“On Children’s Day, we want children to stay motivated, to play, but in a positive way,” she added.
She said that fostering a spirit of unity from an early age is essential to help children grow up respecting and appreciating one another, and to prevent discrimination.
Earlier, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Fauzi, said that this year’s HAN will focus on the importance of children spending quality time playing with parents without digital devices.
“We want to encourage children to play with their parents without gadgets,” she added.
The minister explained that this year’s HAN celebrations will be decentralized to bring them closer to children in regions across Indonesia.
Schools across the country have been asked to organize HAN activities centered on traditional games and interactive play to help reduce screen time for children.
This initiative, Fauzi said, is crucial given that indiscriminate use of digital devices and environmental influences are among the factors that contribute to violence against children, including sexual violence.
