During a bilateral meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President Prabowo discussed clean energy, climate resilience, and strengthening collaboration in bioenergy.
Indonesia views Brazil as a key partner in its energy transition efforts, Minister Lahadalia said in a statement released here on Thursday.
“Brazil has shown strong leadership in the use of low-carbon energy. Their experience is an important reference for Indonesia, which is currently accelerating its clean energy mix,” he added.
Currently, 88 percent of Brazil’s electricity supply is sourced from low-carbon sources, including hydropower, wind, solar, and bioenergy. Brazil’s development of sugarcane-based bioethanol has also made it the world’s second-largest ethanol producer.
Its model is highly relevant to Indonesia’s current efforts to expand biofuel use and develop new energy resources.
“The development of bioethanol is part of our national strategy to create a sustainable and inclusive energy ecosystem. It supports the energy transition and opens new economic opportunities in the regions,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Prabowo highlighted Brazil’s experience in developing the integrated biofuel and agriculture sectors.
According to the President, Brazil’s innovations in these areas have had a real impact on its economy and energy security and could hold valuable lessons for Indonesia.
“We are impressed by your success in developing biofuel, and I believe we are committed to pursuing the progress you have made,” he said during the meeting.
Indonesia has demonstrated its commitment to bioenergy development through the issuance of Ministerial Regulation No. 4 of 2025 on Biofuel Business and Utilization.
The regulation comprehensively governs biofuel management, including bioethanol production, distribution, and use in the transportation sector.
