Hasanuddin University (Unhas) Rector Prof. Dr. Jamaluddin Jompa, MSc, speaking in Makassar on Friday, highlighted the advantages of collaborative research, with the primary goal of enhancing research output.
He explained that strategic collaboration across institutions and countries offers five key benefits, with the first, Pooling Resources, or combining resources to strengthen overall research capacity.
Second, Global Talent, wherein collaboration with global talent fosters the development of innovative solutions to global challenges. Third, Funding Opportunities, where research partnerships increase the chances of success in securing international funding.
Fourth, Innovation Acceleration, wherein industry partnerships accelerate the transformation of research results into market-ready, applicable solutions. Fifth, Sustainability & Networks, a sustainable collaborative network, serves as the foundation for long-term cooperation and sustainable impact.
Prof. Jamaluddin outlined priority areas with potential for research collaboration between Indonesia and Japan, particularly within the framework of Technological Advancements. Research collaboration offers numerous benefits that can be optimized, such as pooling research capacity, access to global talent, and broader funding opportunities.
"The key is forming a consortium that stems from shared interests and is based on human interest. Through this consortium, we can open global access, and the support we receive comes not only from the government but also from various strategic partner sectors," he remarked.

Prof. Jamaluddin expressed pride that Hasanuddin University was entrusted to host this prestigious meeting.
"We are proud that Unhas is hosting this prestigious meeting. In addition to serving as a forum for discussion, this meeting also determines the next host to ensure continued collaboration going forward," he stated.

He noted that the Hiroshima University delegation stated that although not all collaboration agendas have been formally formulated, ongoing discussions have created an initial plan and paved the way for more focused collaboration in the future.
"This Joint Working Group is an important forum for discussing thematic collaboration ideas. We appreciate Unhas' initiative in taking concrete steps by establishing thematic working groups, serving as a wake-up call for future collaboration," Prof. Jamaluddin remarked.
