Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of National Development Planning and Head of Bappenas, Rachmat Pambudy, emphasized that reliable and meaningful statistics must be grounded in humanity during the launch of the Grand Design for Population Development 2025-2045.

“When we talk about statistics, it is not just about numbers. Accurate data are important, but truly good and meaningful statistics must be based on humanity,” Rachmat remarked during the launch at the Bappenas office in Jakarta on Friday.

He stressed that national development must start with people—by improving education, health, and overall well-being—highlighting the need for continuous progress to improve the lives of all Indonesians.

Rachmat underlined that the ultimate goal of population development is both prosperity and happiness. Citing Indonesia’s first Vice President Mohammad Hatta, he reminded that the goal of independence was to ensure the happiness of the people.

“Prosperity alone is not enough. One can be prosperous without being happy, and vice versa. However, those who are happy are often better equipped to overcome challenges,” he remarked.

To achieve inclusive and equitable welfare, Rachmat emphasized that no citizen should be left behind. While economic growth remains essential, he stressed that eliminating inequality is even more important.

“The goal of Indonesia’s development is not just to be prosperous and happy but to be just first, then prosperous,” he said.

Currently, he affirmed that prosperity is enjoyed by only a fraction of the population: “One in two, one in three, maybe one in ten—while the other nine are still left behind. That is where development should be focused.”

Rachmat urged the Population and Family Development Minister, Wihaji, to ensure the government consistently works to control population growth, foster prosperity, and ensure all citizens feel they are treated fairly.

“‘Happiness’ can mean pleasure, joy, positive emotions, or a meaningful life. However, it must be experienced by as many Indonesians as possible. That is the goal of Golden Indonesia 2045,” he concluded.
