Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto expressed optimism that Indonesia could eliminate poverty well before 2045, as the nation's economic growth is projected to rank among the world’s top six.

Citing projections from a global economic institution, he stated that Indonesia could become the sixth- or even fifth-largest economy in the world by 2045—or within the next two decades.

"That is what I believe in and what my government is determined to achieve," he emphasized during his remarks at the opening of Indo Defence, Indo Marine, and Indo Aerospace in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He noted that if Indonesia can sustain a GDP of US$1.5 trillion, the country could become one of the world’s largest economies by 2045.

Prabowo also highlighted the presence of young Indonesian technocrats, currently in their 30s, who are expected to lead the nation in the future.

Poverty reduction is one of the key priorities of Prabowo’s administration. Earlier, he issued a presidential instruction directing all relevant agencies to take coordinated action to reduce poverty and eliminate extreme poverty through accurate and integrated programs.

During his speech, he also described the Indo Defence exhibition as an opportunity for stakeholders to stay informed on the latest developments in defense technology and science.

Indo Defence is being held from June 11 to 14 at the Jakarta International Expo, featuring 1,180 companies from 55 countries.
