Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate General of Air Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation highlighted its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing climate change through sustainable policies.

"As part of Indonesia's commitment to the Paris Agreement and the target of achieving Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060, we continue to encourage the implementation of programs and policies that support emission reduction," the directorate general's secretary, Achmad Setiyo Prabowo, stated here on Thursday.

Prabowo remarked that his ministry had earlier held a monitoring session on climate change and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions management activities in the air transportation subsector in Jakarta on July 14-15, 2025.

He noted that the session served as a strategic forum for stakeholders, including ministries, agencies, airport operators, airlines, and industry partners, to jointly evaluate program achievements, identify challenges, and strengthen synergies in reducing GHG emissions in the aviation sector.

At the forum, participants discussed several important issues related to efforts to reduce GHG emissions in the air transportation sector.

One of the main topics was the creation of the National Action Plan for Greenhouse Gas (RAN GRK) Team Work Program for the 2025–2027 period, which will serve as a strategic guide for implementing emissions mitigation actions.

Prabowo elaborated that it also included monitoring and evaluation of emissions calculations at airports, as well as calculating GHG emissions to evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing programs.

Focusing on emissions inventory in the air transportation subsector aims to obtain accurate and integrated data as a foundation for developing more targeted policies.

Indonesia continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), which aims to stabilize emissions from international aviation through operational efficiency and carbon offsetting mechanisms.

The Directorate General of Air Transportation has readied several strategic measures, including improving energy efficiency in airport and flight operations, using low-carbon fuel, and strengthening emission reporting regulations.
