Jakarta (ANTARA) - An Indonesian lawmaker has voiced strong support for Gerbangtara, a consortium and grassroots movement focused on empowering local communities and advancing development in the country’s new capital, Nusantara.

Hetifah Sjaifudian, Chair of Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR), said the initiative has great potential to foster community spirit and strengthen civil society organizations in East Kalimantan, encouraging more inclusive and participatory development in the new capital.

"I am truly impressed by Gerbangtara's initiative. It serves as a driving force to revive community and civil society engagement in East Kalimantan, while also providing a platform for cross-sector dialogue," she said in a statement issued Thursday.

Her remarks came during a hearing between Commission X — which oversees sectors such as education, youth, and culture — and representatives from Gerbangtara at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta.

Sjaifudian, who represents East Kalimantan in the DPR, emphasized her commitment to supporting local movements and initiatives that encourage public participation in Nusantara's development.

Gerbangtara representative Aie Natasha said the group is currently working to strengthen the capacity of community leaders and civil society organizations in and around Nusantara.

"We want to ensure that local communities are not just passive observers, but active contributors to the development of Nusantara," she said.

The group aims to promote cross-sector collaboration between communities, the government, and parliament, helping ensure that Nusantara evolves into a city built on public engagement and innovation.

Gerbangtara describes itself as a movement committed to the inclusive development of Nusantara through community empowerment, collaboration, and innovation.
