Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) has emphasized that the development of Indonesia's new capital in East Kalimantan is prioritizing the gradual enhancement of human resources and a shift in public mindset.

“A shift in mindset is crucial to adapt to the new phased development model of the capital city,” said Alimuddin, OIKN’s Deputy for Community Empowerment, on Friday.

He explained that the development of Nusantara involves four key stages: preparation, development, relocation, and administration.

OIKN has called on surrounding regions — particularly North Penajam Paser, Balikpapan, and Samarinda — to align their development programs with these stages. This is in line with the Tri-City concept that seeks to integrate these three major regions with the new capital.

“Development planning must be synchronized so that infrastructure and services in the capital are also relevant and accessible to areas outside the Central Government Core Area (KIPP),” Alimuddin said.

He emphasized that Nusantara's development is not a short-term project but a long-term, staged process. The initial phase focuses on establishing essential government facilities such as palaces, ministry offices, and roads both within and outside the KIPP.

These include the IKN toll road, which is expected to be fully completed by the end of 2025, he noted.

Urban planning around the capital, such as the redevelopment of the Sepaku Market area, will also be designed to align with the capital’s broader development concept.

Responding to concerns about the competitiveness of East Kalimantan’s human resources, Alimuddin said that nearly 30 percent of OIKN’s current staff are locals.

He added that East Kalimantan’s workforce holds significant potential, provided they are willing to step out of their comfort zones and embrace competition.
