According to a statement from the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Rome, Italy, received here on Friday, the handover of the letter of credence officially marked the start of Junimart Girsang's duties as Indonesian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Rome.
The ceremony started with the ambassador's departure from the Indonesian embassy's residence in Rome to the Quirinale Palace.
Girsang was greeted by officials from the Protocol of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and was accompanied by Political Functions Coordinator Eko Himawan, Protocol and Consular Functions Coordinator Silvia Juliana Malau, and the Defense Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Rome Profidol Andre Mantiri Dotulung.
Upon arrival at the Quirinale Palace, Ambassador Girsang received a brief military salute as part of the customary state ceremony.
He was then escorted by the Head of Diplomatic Protocol to an audience with President Mattarella.
During the meeting, Girsang officially presented his credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia.
He also conveyed respectful greetings from the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto and expressed the Indonesian Government's strong commitment to continue strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Italy in various strategic areas.
This commitment is reflected through strategic cooperation in the defense sector, including the purchase of two advanced frigates produced by Fincantieri, one of which, KRI Brawijaya 320, was officially handed over on July 2, 2025.
In addition, Ambassador Girsang also emphasized the importance of increasing and diversifying trade, investment, and tourism relations between the two countries.
Girsang arrived in Rome on June 17, 2025, after being inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto on March 24, 2025, at the State Palace, Jakarta.
