“This collaboration is a strategic step for ITS to provide education integrated with the needs of the global automotive industry,” Manager of the ITS Science Techno Park (STP) Bambang Sudarmanta said in Surabaya on Monday.
He informed that the plan to expand the collaboration was forged after 10 ITS lecturers participated in new energy vehicle automotive training in China, funded by the Higher Education for Technology and Innovation (HETI) program of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
During the training, the ITS delegation explored electric vehicle, hybrid electric vehicle, hydrogen engine, and hydrogen fuel cell technology, which sparked discussions about further collaboration with Beifang.

“This training center is planned to be equipped with Beifang’s advanced automotive research equipment,” Sudarmanta, who is also a professor at the ITS’ Department of Mechanical Engineering, said.
He informed that the facility will be open to ITS students and participants from outside the campus, including vocational high school students. Participants who do well will get the opportunity to continue their training in Beifang, China.
Sudarmanta expressed the hope that the collaboration will accelerate knowledge transfer and strengthen mastery of automotive technology, particularly new energy vehicles, as well as encourage the emergence of entrepreneurs and start-ups in the field.
“This is our commitment to continue supporting the advancement of national automotive technology,” he said.
He added that the collaboration is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on quality education, Goal 9 on industry and innovation, and Goal 17 on fostering partnerships to achieve the goals.
