Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Jakarta Rano Karno has called on all residents of Jakarta to participate in the government’s efforts to create a safe and supportive ecosystem for children.

“Let us create child-friendly environments, starting from households to neighborhoods and schools, as our children need support, role models, and our presence as parents,” he remarked during an event commemorating the 2025 National Children’s Day, as monitored online from the Jakarta government’s YouTube channel.

Speaking from a multifunctional building at Ragunan Zoo in South Jakarta on Saturday, he highlighted that the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection declared Jakarta a child-friendly province in 2022.

“This achievement is the result of commitment and cooperation among all stakeholders in implementing various initiatives,” Rano highlighted.

The deputy governor cited examples such as the Smart Jakarta Card program, the development of 324 child-friendly integrated public spaces, 13-year compulsory education, daycare facilities, and the retrieval of diplomas withheld by schools due to unpaid tuition fees.

“These initiatives serve as concrete proof of the Jakarta government’s care for children,” he added.

Karno further stated that the provincial government would continue to devise and implement programs ensuring children have a safe and supportive environment to optimally grow, develop, and participate in society.

Meanwhile, Head of the Jakarta Office of Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control, Iin Mutmainnah, explained that the regional government organized the Children’s Day event for several reasons.

“First, we aim to strengthen the commitment and efforts of Jakarta officials to protect children,” she remarked.

She stated that the event also sought to raise public awareness of the importance of upholding children’s rights and offering them the best possible care and love.

Furthermore, she highlighted that the event, which attracted 964 participants, served as a platform to recognize and honor children for their contributions to the nation’s progress.
