Makassar (ANTARA) - Manpower Minister Yassierli has said that the government is modifying programs offered by job training centers (BLKs) to ensure they produce workers who have the competencies that industries need.

“It should be noted that we are carrying out transformation in BLKs, devising training programs that are grounded in the needs of industries,” he added while delivering a public lecture at Indonesian Muslim University in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Saturday.

He noted that around 40 BLKs are directly run by the Ministry of Manpower, while about 250 others are under the management of other state institutions and regional governments.

To enhance these capacity-building facilities, the government is focusing on programs or courses that can boost workers’ capabilities in mastering digital technologies, such as the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence, he informed.

Furthermore, the training centers are expected to apply project-based learning, offer relevant courses for operators of Red and White Village Cooperatives, and provide competency training on environmentally responsible practices.

“We are also preparing instructors for all BLKs across the country to ensure that their trainees do not find it difficult to get a job once they graduate,” Yassierli said.

He added that the Ministry of Manpower is planning to open the first batch of the upgraded training courses in August 2025, which will target over 10 thousand workers.

“This way, we can expect the workers to obtain the actual skills demanded by industries once they complete their training courses,” he said.

The minister made similar statements earlier, saying that his ministry will focus on transforming the curriculum and training methods of BLKs to align them not only with industry needs but also government priority programs.

Optimizing training centers is both a solution and a strategic challenge that Indonesia is facing in addressing employment issues, he added in an official statement released on Wednesday.
