"Indonesia has the potential to compete in the esports industry, which is full of strategies, technology, and creativity," he remarked in a statement here on Sunday.
To bolster the esports industry, the Ministry of Creative Economy is supporting the VIII National Community Sports Festival (FORNAS) 2025 in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, which features an esports competition.
In the competition, organized by the Indonesia Esports Association (IESPA) on July 26 and 27, there are three popular video games being competed in: Honor of Kings, Tekken 8, and eFootball.
According to Harsya, the competition can enhance the spirits of sports, culture, and technology, bringing them together in harmony.
The minister underlined that esports is an essential part of the creative economy and Indonesia has proven itself as a new power in this field.
"A career in esports is not limited to becoming a professional player. There are big opportunities in player management, tournament management, shoutcasting, production management, data analysis, and storytelling," he remarked.
Going forward, the Indonesian government is committed to supporting the growth of the national esports industry not only through regulations but also promotion of events.
Support from other stakeholders is also expected to be able to increase the contribution of the esports industry to the national creative economy.
IESPA Chairperson Ibnu Riza Pradipto explained that the task of the association is not only disseminating information on esports but also educating the community that esports and gaming industries are part of the creative economy and play an active role in Indonesia's economy.
He noted that the gaming industry must receive attention so that Indonesian gamers do not only end up becoming consumptive gamers but also become productive gamers.
