"We have prepared Rp10 billion to support migrant workers. The funds will be managed by Bank Bengkulu and used for language and skills training based on the needs of destination countries. Our target is to send one thousand of Bengkulu's best young people abroad each year," Bengkulu Governor Helmi Hasan stated in Bengkulu on Tuesday.
He explained that with this support, Bengkulu's youth interested in working overseas will be equipped with proper language communication skills and technical abilities. As a result, they will earn better incomes compared to workers who rely only on physical labor.
"We are working in collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower, Bank Bengkulu, the Education Office, Poltekkes, and other institutions. Our target is to recruit candidates from every district and city across Bengkulu," he remarked.
He noted that young people will not only work abroad but also acquire new skills. While working overseas, they will gain valuable experience and return home with improved incomes and fresh perspectives.
The Bengkulu Provincial Government is holding the PMI Expo 2025 at the end of July as part of its efforts to provide wider access to job opportunities and overseas employment information for the public.
The event involves Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Companies (P3MI) operating in Bengkulu, along with private job training institutions (LPKS) contracted to send workers abroad.
Governor Helmi stated that the program is part of a broader mission led by the Bengkulu Provincial Government under his and Vice Governor Mian's leadership, aimed at ensuring that the public, especially prospective migrant workers, receive accurate information, quality training, and maximum protection.
The program also aligns with the Bengkulu provincial initiative called Bantu Rakyat (Help the People), which encourages all regional agencies to take concrete action in creating a more prosperous society.
"Employment is a serious concern for the provincial government. We aim to create a social, economic, and cultural environment that supports workforce productivity so people can live better and more dignified lives," Helmi remarked.
