Pasuruan, E Java (ANTARA) - Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Arifah Fauzi has affirmed that the government is continuing to encourage efforts to fulfill children’s rights to create a quality generation.

“In fulfilling children’s rights, we cannot do it alone. We need support from all, especially parents,” she said at the National Children’s Day commemoration event in Pasuruan, East Java, on Tuesday.

She explained that the fulfillment of children’s rights includes civil rights, the right to growth and development, the right to protection, and the right to participate. It starts with good parenting, she said.

According to Fauzi, an analysis conducted by her ministry identified three main causes of violence against children. Those three are poor parenting, unwise use of gadgets, and environmental factors.

Based on the ministry’s data, 16,713 cases of violence have been recorded in Indonesia since January 1, 2025. Children accounted for 62.8 percent of the victims.

Based on gender, 80.5 percent of the victims were girls and women.

The minister said that her ministry is currently promoting a program to limit children’s gadget use by reintroducing traditional games and strengthening children’s sense of nationalism by promoting national songs, fairy tales, and stories of national heroes.

Furthermore, regarding parenting, she emphasized that families are expected to instill religious values, moral principles, and noble character in children.

In the 2024 National Survey of Children and Adolescents’ Life Experiences (SNPHAR) by the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, 50.78 percent of children aged 13–17 years in Indonesia reported experiencing violence throughout their lives.

The most dominant type of violence was emotional abuse, with 45 out of 100 children aged 13–17 years reporting encountering it.
