Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf has visited the Presidential Palace to update President Prabowo Subianto on the tuition-free Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools) program and efforts to improve the accuracy of social aid distribution.

“We are here to present a report on the Sekolah Rakyat program, which we launched at 63 sites on July 14,” he told the media upon arriving at the palace in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He highlighted that the Ministry of Social Affairs aims to expand the program’s reach by opening Sekolah Rakyat at another 37 locations in early August to serve the educational needs of approximately 9,700 children. The new schools are expected to empower some 1,500 teachers and more than two thousand educators and related workers.

Furthermore, the ministry has set a target of opening 50 more Sekolah Rakyat facilities in September, he added.

The minister noted that in the past two weeks, students and teachers at existing Sekolah Rakyat schools had joined other schools nationwide in the orientation period for the 2025–2026 academic year.

He emphasized that although all the schools are still in an introduction phase, they already have everything needed for teaching and learning activities prepared by the government.

Turning to social assistance, the minister said he would brief the president on ongoing measures to improve the distribution system and prevent future cases of misuse.

He noted that Presidential Instruction No. 4 of 2025 mandates the Social Affairs Ministry to help update the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN), which serves as the main reference for distributing government aid.

“I am convinced that if we consistently update the data by involving the private sector, we can further improve its validity,” he stated.
