“Eradicating scams is now a national priority and an integral part of the strategy to build a safe, clean, and trustworthy digital space,” the ministry’s director general of digital space supervision, Alexander Sabar, said at the launch of the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA), Indonesia Chapter, in Jakarta on Thursday.
He informed that public losses due to scams crossed Rp700 billion (US$41 million) between November 2024 and February 2025.
According to Sabar, the phenomenon signals a crisis of trust online.
He informed that in the period from October 2024 to July 27, 2025, the ministry handled 1,659,917 online gambling content and 5,234 fraudulent content.
He said that these findings demonstrate that scams are not individual crimes, but a systemic problem that requires cross-sectoral action, covering technology and regulation to digital literacy, to address.
He said that the launch of the GASA, Indonesia Chapter, is an important milestone in comprehensive scam prevention efforts.
He also described the initiative as a collaborative platform between the government, industry, and civil society.
“Scam prevention requires collective efforts. The government and the industry cannot work alone. Therefore, we must collaborate in a structured and sustainable movement,” he added.
The GASA, Indonesia Chapter, is expected to foster joint action by combining knowledge, data, and strategies from various parties.
This collaboration aligns with the Asta Cita agenda to build sovereignty and trust in the national digital space.
Sabar then expressed his appreciation for GASA Global, all organizing partners, and stakeholders for their support and commitment to the initiative.
He emphasized that the government will continue to encourage concrete steps for scam eradication to protect the public and strengthen digital trust sustainably.
“This initiative is not merely a symbol but a hub of action where knowledge, data, and strategies can be consolidated to realize a safe, clean, and trustworthy digital space for the Indonesian public,” he added.
