Deputy Minister of Housing and Settlements (PKP) Fahri Hamzah conveyed this information in a statement cited in Jakarta on Saturday.
He noted that the national project will be implemented jointly by the PKP Ministry and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), with a budget ranging between Rp20 billion and Rp22 billion (approximately US$1.3 million) for each location.
“We have been coordinating with the KKP. The president (Prabowo Subianto) has instructed them to handle one thousand coastal areas, while we at the PKP Ministry manage the rest,” Hamzah elaborated.
He elaborated that this program would not rely solely on the state budget, noting that the government aims to involve the private sector by highlighting the strategic value of the targeted areas.
Emphasizing accuracy and effectiveness, he stressed the importance of using data from local governments in the formulation and implementation of every national program.

“Local administrations know the people better than the central government does. For instance, a neighborhood head may have more accurate information on who among the residents is sick and which married couples got into a fight. Local governments understand such issues better,” he stated.
On that note, Hamzah underlined that Indonesia had seen many centrally initiated projects stall or be abandoned due to neglecting regional government data.
“It has happened that we brought projects to the wrong places, ultimately leading to their cancellation. We cannot afford to let this happen again,” the deputy minister stressed.
Bearing that in mind, he called for stronger synergy between the central and regional governments to ensure the success of people-oriented initiatives.
