With this abolition, which results in the complete and permanent closure of Tom Lembong's case, President Prabowo has sent a letter No.R.43/PRES/07/2025 dated July 30, 2025, to the House of Representatives (DPR).
In response to the letter, the House announced, on Thursday evening (July 31), its approval of the president's request to grant abolition to the former trade minister.
The House also approved the request to grant amnesty to Secretary General of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Hasto Kristiyanto, who was found guilty of bribery linked to the appointment of a member of parliament and obstructing the investigation into Harun Masiku.
On Friday night (August 1), Lembong was officially released from Cipinang Detention Center, East Jakarta. Meanwhile, Kristiyanto was officially released from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Detention Center.
According to Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas, the main reason for granting the pardons was for the benefit of the nation and the state.
