According to Leonardo, the initiative is not only important for education, but could also support talent development in sports over the long term.
“This is incredible. Giving young people free access to health checks is very beneficial, especially as it helps the government detect potential physical or mental health issues early on,” he told ANTARA during a visit to State Vocational High School 26 Jakarta on Monday.
He praised the government’s proactive approach, saying it opens up broader opportunities to identify potential athletes of school age.
“In terms of competitive sports, this program will be very helpful in the long run. It might even discover future athletes who can make Indonesia proud,” the Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist added.
He also emphasized the importance of health in supporting learning and creativity at school.
He noted that students who are physically and mentally healthy have a greater chance of absorbing knowledge and developing their talents.
“This is a vital investment for young people who still have long academic and career paths ahead. For schools, this program greatly supports more effective teaching and learning activities,” Leonardo said.
The government officially launched the CKG Sekolah Program simultaneously at 12 schools in different regions on Monday. The program is part of the national Free Health Check (CKG) initiative that began on February 10.
CKG Sekolah is part of the transformation of the national health system toward a stronger focus on disease prevention and health promotion, particularly for children and teenagers.
Since its initial launch, the CKG program has reached over 16 million people as of August 1, 2025.
The government is targeting to cover 281 million residents through the program, including 53.8 million students from 282 thousand education units, ranging from elementary, junior high, and senior high schools to madrasas and community schools.
