Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Athletics Federation (PB PASI) will host the LPS National Athletics Championships (Kejurnas) and the Indonesia U-18 Open Championships in Solo, Central Java, from August 29 to September 4.

“The competition results will count towards the World Rankings points tally,” PB PASI stated via its official social media accounts, as monitored from Jakarta on Tuesday.

PB PASI stated that the championship is highly prestigious as it is included on the global calendar of World Athletics and holds the status of a World Rankings Competition.

This means athletes who earn points in the championship will have them added to their world rankings. The event’s international status increases opportunities for Indonesian athletes to qualify for global competitions and encourages greater competitiveness and motivation among national athletes.

Held in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of PB PASI, the championships are expected to serve as a strategic platform for athlete regeneration, new achievements, and the strengthening of Indonesia’s athletics development ecosystem.

Following the Solo event, PB PASI will also host the 17th SEA U18 and U20 Athletics Championships 2025 at Madya Stadium in Medan, North Sumatra, on November 15-18.

PB PASI Secretary General Tigor Tanjung noted that the tournament has been held regularly since 2006 and will enter its 17th edition this year.

He explained that Madya Stadium in Medan was selected for its world-class facilities, making it fit to host major events, including those at the Olympic level.

Indonesia last hosted the same championship in 2011. This year, PB PASI aims to leverage the event to boost Indonesia’s profile in the Asian athletics landscape.

Tigor also expressed hope that Indonesia will submit a bid to host the Asian U18 Championships in 2027, which will feature competitors from 45 member countries.
