Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Immigration and Correction Affairs Minister Agus Andrianto stated that the government is following up on information about two former Israel Defense Forces (IDF) personnel operating luxurious villas in Bali.

"We are checking on it right now. Our team is carrying out the operation," Andiranto stated at the Presidential Palace Complex here on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the minister reported that around 100 foreigners were detained in a recent immigration operation in Bali, though he did not specify the immigration violations committed by the foreigners that led to their arrests.

The two Israelis, a man and a woman, are suspected of having served as IDF personnel. The man is believed to be Shachar Gonen, who identifies as a traveler and content creator and resides in Bali.

Gonen was known for promoting exclusive and luxurious modern tropical-style villas in Bali through his Instagram account @gonenvillasbali. However, the account is currently locked and has no posts or followers. His personal Instagram account has also been locked.

Despite his Instagram account being locked, clips of his posts still appear in search engine results, such as on Google.

Reports indicate that Gonen entered Indonesia by registering his nationality as German with the immigration authorities. He reportedly lives in the Mengwi region of Badung District.

He holds an Indonesian temporary stay permit (KITAS) as an investor, with a visa valid until March 2026. An Indonesian company has been registered as his guarantor.

Meanwhile, the Bali Police stated last month that they would investigate the Israelis if any violations of Indonesian law were identified.
