Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Environment, Diaz Hendropriyono, has said that Indonesia will need Rp4 thousand trillion to fund climate change actions until 2030.

“We are always pushing for it because we need Rp4 thousand trillion for climate funding until 2030,” Hendropriyono said at the signing of the RBP REDD+ Fund Distribution Agreement for the Result Period 2014–2016 GCF Output 2 in Jakarta on Thursday.

However, he pointed out that there is a large gap between the funding needed for climate change actions and the available funding.

“There is a large gap between the funds needed for climate change actions and the funds available,” he said.

He added that to finance climate actions, his office cannot rely solely on allocations from the limited state budget.

Therefore, the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH) has been tasked with seeking funding from sources outside the state budget.

“We have the BPDLH, whose task is to seek funding from international donors, CSR (corporate social responsibility programs), and philanthropy,” Hendropriyono said.

One source of funding is the Green Climate Fund (GCF), which has provided US$103.78 million to finance climate change actions in Indonesia.

The funding was provided in three rounds. In the first round, Rp251 billion was disbursed for climate actions in nine provinces. In the second round, Rp256 billion has been provided to 15 provinces.

“This is the second batch. This second batch covers 15 provinces, with a total funding of approximately Rp256 billion to help regions implement climate actions,” he informed.

The third round of funding will finance climate actions in 14 provinces.

He informed that each province will receive funding ranging from US$250 thousand to US$5 million.
