Bantul (ANTARA) - Presidential Chief of Staff, A.M. Putranto, said that the government’s People’s School program, run by the Social Affairs Ministry, is expected to provide children the skills and knowledge to build a better future for themselves.

After visiting People’s Senior High School 19 in Bantul district, Yogyakarta Special Region, on Friday, Putranto observed that the program, which has been running for some time, has greatly helped families who cannot afford to send their children to school.

“We hope these children will not return to their previous circumstances, but instead, improve their quality of life after attending this school. That is our expectation,” he added.

He informed that the People’s School is part of President Prabowo Subianto’s education initiative, which focuses not only on improving teaching standards but also on providing opportunities to underprivileged students.

“Through this program, the government is trying to give the best for the nation, especially for communities in need,” he said.

The People’s School aims to provide quality education for children, particularly those from low-income families, and is coordinated directly with local governments.

“The plan is to establish 200 People’s Schools nationwide. Currently, around 63 schools are operating, and this number will continue to grow to accommodate those considered less fortunate,” Putranto said.

He added that the program does not only offer classroom learning. Students are provided with boarding facilities, three meals a day, proper beds, and adequate educational infrastructure.

The People’s School in Bantul, Yogyakarta province, is operating out of the Ministry of Social Affairs’ research and development building.

Putranto praised all parties supporting the program, noting the contribution of the military, police, and the Ministry of Social Affairs.

“President Prabowo pays attention not only to the students but also to the teachers. That is why I urge that these positive aspects be shared with the public,” he said.
