Jakarta (ANTARA) - The governments of Indonesia and Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), are holding intensive avocado cultivation training for Palestine in the hope of improving the production and marketing of the commodity,

"We note that avocados are a promising high-value agricultural commodity in Palestine and can contribute significantly to the Palestinian economy," Head of the International Bureau of the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture Ade Candradijaya, said at the launch of the avocado cultivation training in Malang, East Java, on Monday.

The training is being held from August 11 to 25, with 15 participants representing the Palestinian government who will learn the comprehensive process of avocado farming and marketing.

According to a written statement from JICA received in Jakarta, Candradijaya stated that Indonesia was "happy to share best practices and experiences in avocado production."

Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair Al-Shun expressed his appreciation for the ongoing assistance from the Indonesian government and JICA to Palestine for the agricultural sector, which is the mainstay of the Palestinian economy.

Meanwhile, JICA Indonesia Senior Representative Jimbo Naomi stated that the training demonstrates the strong commitment of Japan and Indonesia to supporting Palestinian development through various cooperation schemes that have been in place since 2007.

The event, titled "South-South Triangular Cooperation Training (SSTC) on Integrated Avocado Tropical Fruit Farming Management for Palestine," was opened at the Ketindan Agricultural Training Center in Malang.

The training would be divided into theory session and field practice session in various cities in Indonesia, including Surabaya, Malang, Gresik, Klaten, Subang, and Bogor.

According to JICA, the training was part of the second phase of the Capacity Building program supported by the Conference on Cooperation among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD), initiated by Japan in 2013.

The training, conducted in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, JICA, and Indonesia AID, also reaffirmed the joint commitment of Indonesia and Japan to continue supporting Palestinian development.
