Jakarta (ANTARA) - A total of 16 thousand guests have been invited to join the Seconds to the Independence Proclamation ceremony and the flag-lowering ceremony at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

Eight thousand invitees will attend the proclamation ceremony in the morning, and another eight thousand will take part in the flag-lowering ceremony in the afternoon, Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, informed.

“Eight thousand in the morning, eight thousand in the afternoon - and the public is very enthusiastic to attend,” he said at the Presidential Palace Complex here on Tuesday.

He added that the invitations have been reserved as per the available capacity, and expressed his apologies for the limited space.

“Many people want to attend the celebration, but once again, due to limited space, not everyone can be accommodated,” he said.

Asked whether national figures such as Indonesia’s fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri and seventh President Joko Widodo will attend the ceremony, Hadi said he was not at liberty to disclose the information yet.

“Wait and see,” he said.

He further said that while officials are expected to turn out in traditional clothing, members of the public will not need to wear traditional or customary attire to the ceremony.

However, he expressed the hope that in the spirit of Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations, invitees will wear red and white-themed clothing.

Hadi revealed that following suggestions and ideas from various circles to enliven the event, a variety of performers from the community, art institutions, and art groups have been invited to perform during the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the palace.
