The project is estimated to cost between Rp100 billion and Rp150 billion.
Deputy chair of Commission VI of the House of Representatives, Andre Rosiade, informed that as part of the renovation, the covered stands on the left and right sides of the stadium will be expanded, and the height of the eastern stand will be increased.
Once completed, the stadium will feature a single-seat system with a capacity to accommodate 15 thousand spectators.
Construction is targeted to begin in December 2025 and be completed within one year. During the renovation, Semen Padang FC will temporarily play their home matches in Jakarta.
The renovation is deemed necessary as the stadium, which was built in 1985, is considered no longer suitable for hosting matches.
In the 2024–2025 Liga 1 season, the stadium underwent partial repairs, forcing several Semen Padang FC home matches to be moved to PTIK Stadium in Jakarta and West Sumatra Main Stadium.
Rosiade said that the West Sumatra regional budget would be insufficient for the renovation; therefore, it will be financed using the state budget allocated by the Ministry of Public Works.
Head of the West Sumatra Highways, Human Settlements, and Spatial Planning Office, Erasukma Munaf, said that the renovation will retain the distinctive Minangkabau-style gonjong roof of the eastern stand, though the entire structure will be rebuilt.
