Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to eradicating corruption -- acts he described as having severely plagued the nation, from government institutions to companies run by the central and regional governments.

"We are aware that corruption remains a tough challenge for our country. Corrupt acts are prevalent among bureaucrats in every echelon of every government institution and organization, as well as state-run and region-run enterprises," he said in Jakarta on Friday.

Delivering a state address during the 2025 Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Prabowo stressed that the nation should acknowledge and confront corruption rather than conceal it.

"This is not a good trend, but I find it crucial to convey this to the people’s representatives here. In my presidential inauguration speech, I affirmed that the Indonesian nation must have the courage to look into its flaws; we must recognize our own mistakes so we can improve," he emphasized.

The president noted that his first 299 days in office had convinced him that tackling corruption and misconduct within the government is an exceptionally difficult task.

He further underlined that he had pledged to serve the nation by upholding the 1945 Constitution, which mandates protecting the country from corrupt acts.

"For that reason, I have no choice but to take the lead in our fight against all corrupt practices and misconduct in every executive body," he affirmed.

As part of the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of Indonesia's independence, the country convened the MPR Annual Session alongside the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the Parliamentary Complex on Friday morning.

The Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) began with an opening address by MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani, followed by an introductory speech for the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) delivered by DPR Speaker Puan Maharani.

After the two opening remarks, a video presentation was shown highlighting the implementation of priority programs and the achievements of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration.
