Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto assured that with the 2026 health budget of Rp244 trillion (around US$15 billion), the government will fully cover the national health insurance costs for 96.8 million poor and vulnerable people.

"The government fully bears the health insurance cost for 96.8 million poor and vulnerable people," he said in his speech on the 2026 Draft State Budget (RAPBN) at the Plenary Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on Friday.

According to him, this policy aims to expand access and improve the quality of health services for all citizens, particularly those with low incomes.

The president stressed that access to healthcare is the right of every citizen, and therefore, poor and vulnerable groups must be guaranteed access to quality medical services.

Prabowo explained that the Rp244 trillion budget will prioritize strengthening the National Health Insurance program, revitalizing hospitals, and accelerating efforts to reduce stunting.

Other priorities include providing nutritional support for children and pregnant women, controlling communicable diseases, reducing tuberculosis (TB) cases, and implementing the Free Health Screening program.

These measures, he added, will not only ease the burden on the community but also help prevent diseases from progressing to severe stages, thereby reducing future state expenditure.

The Ministry of Finance reported that Rp218.5 trillion was allocated for the health sector in the 2025 state budget. The ministry has consistently maintained health spending at above 5 percent of the state budget to ensure public access to quality services, including through integrated health posts (posyandu) that reach remote areas.
